Literature review has showed metadata receive considerable attention in digital library integration. However, integrating digital libraries across heterogeneous metadata confronts critical challenges in both format and semantic issues. This paper proposes novel three-layer architecture for digital library integration from the perspective of metadata. First, metadata extraction layer retrieves data automatically from distributed digital libraries. Second, semantic query layer provides transparent search to solve semantic heterogeneity. Finally, data clustering layer integrates each sub-structure search result to improve accuracy. Adapting the architecture alleviates the administrative effort to integrate digital library and is beneficial for semantic search.
