說明
School sports team is a main approach to the development of youth sports in Taiwan. Furthermore, the set of Athletic Class, which gathers student athletes of the same grade of their school into one classroom, has been utilized as an important mean to meet young athletes’ needs in academic learning and sports training. In pursuing two parallel careers, it has been argued that the student athletes often failed to maintain their academic learning due to spending excessive time on sports training or the school curriculum being unable to meet their learning needs. In 2009, a new curriculum, named the Senior high School Athletic Class Curriculum (SHSAC Curriculum), was initiated to help the development of student athlete aged 16-18. In the above context, this study investigated (1) the school teachers’ and coaches’ professional identities in relation to educating/coaching student athletes and (2) their interpretation and implementation of the new curriculum. Research data were collected from fifteen teachers/coaches of three schools by using a life history approach (Goodson & Sikes, 2001). Findings indicate that, although all teachers/coaches agreed with the idea of the new curriculum, the curricular implementations in the three studied schools were dissimilar. Whereas young people’s rights in education should be a top priority, it was found that teachers/coaches did not prioritise student athletes’ development in the same way. It is suggested that following research investigating student athletes’ learning experiences in relation to the curriculum.
