專案詳細資料

說明

Under the transition of urban civilization, some historical buildings and facilities in and around the city center will lost their original support of the city vitality and economic development. Old cultural history and environmental functions have been disintegrated, and cultural landscape has gradually diminished. Taipei Liu-Kong Canal was the most important water system in Taipei, where it irrigated the eastern Taipei Basin farmland, but after road constructions and urban development, the original ditches of Liu-Kong Canals have been filled in or stamped, and have lost their original appearances. The urban city faces challenges of climate change and globalization trend, the old water system not only reflects the historical and cultural context, but is also a part of the city’s water and green environment, with ecological, social, and historical implications. In this study, we analyzed relevant historical references to understand how Liu-Kong Canal related to the development of Taipei city. Through field surveys and interviewing residents, we recorded the canal system and status in order to recognize the location of Liu-Kong Canal as well as the emotional reaction of the residents. Using in-depth interviews with experts and scholars, we constructed the relationships between Liu-Kong Canal and Taipei’s urbanization, and in conclusion, to use social space production and urban restoration theory to provide structural arguments and discussions. The research results show, Liu-Kong Canal system passes through Taipei Basin’s major communities, and was one of the city’s major cultural landscapes. In the process of modernization, the agricultural waterway was transformed into infrustrustural facilities to accommodate new materials and practice of social reproduction. For the preservation and promotion of Liu-Kong Canal value, we suggested nominating Liu-Kong Canal as a cultural landscape. In addition, Taipei government should consider the “alive-support systems” in land use planning, which emphasize on original Liu-Kong Canal function to connect parks, green spaces and urban natural areas as the basis of “water environment“ series, and to re-plan the “water area“ of the “water environment“ of the whole metropolitan area. In facing the challenges of extreme weathers, maintaining Liu-Kong Canal waterway system has positive significance toughness in urban disaster prevention.
