I firmly believe in integrating my own research results into my teaching, which serves the purpose of continuously enhancing my syllabi and thus further developing my department’s curriculum. Most of the courses I teach are linguistics courses, either introductory or about syntax more specifically, which means that I will have plenty of chances to include the results of this project in my lectures. Moreover, I hope that this project can inspire research on related issues in different languages. An obvious research question that arises then is whether agreement and its related syntactic patterns in languages similar to English can be analyzed with similar theoretical tools. Moreover, it would be interesting to see to what extent these theoretical tools can be utilized to analyze agreement patterns in other languages that may look very different from the ones discussed in the present project. In this respect, notice that most of the data that I examine in my proposal from the point of view of agreement properties belongs to English, a language with rather poor agreement morphology. I also believe that researchers should try to make their research available to the general public and raise awareness of issues that are current in the academic world (the so-called popular science). I thus plan to give at least a couple of brown bag lectures in my department to present the results of the research proposed here. These lectures would be open to the general public and at least I expect members of other departments to attend. It may be the case that the exact results of this research are not relevant to people’s lives in any obvious way, but it hopefully will at least make people think about language in ways they had not thought before.
