專案詳細資料

說明

The TPB assume a rational approach to engaging in various behaviors. It has been used considerably to explain health behavior. However, most of these researches are to test the effectiveness of the TPB constructs on predicting individuals to perform actions on their own benefit rather than perform a behavior of more beneficial to others, in terms of breastfeeding. The purposes of this study were to assess the applicability and efficacy of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to predicting breastfeeding. The analyses provide evidence for theoretically predictable relations between attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, intention, and behaviour with regard to breastfeeding. A Meta-analysis approach could help inform the practice with regard to promote breastfeeding. We searched for studies to include in our analysis, examining those published between January 1, 1990 and December 31, 2012 by using PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, ProQuest Medical Library, and Mosby’s Index. In addition, we reviewed journals with a history of publishing breastfeeding studies and searched reference lists for potential articles to include. This study used meta-analytic procedures. In the results, ten studies comprising a total of 2,694 participants were selected for analysis. These studies yielded 10 effect sizes from the TPB. The effect sizes are ranged from 0.20 to 0.59. Structural equation model analysis using the pooled correlation matrix enabled the relative coefficients amongst TPB constructs to be determined. Attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control were all significant predictors of breastfeeding intention, while intention was a strong predictor of breastfeeding. Perceived behavioural control reached a borderline level of significance to breastfeeding. In the conclusion, Theoretical and empirical implications are discussed from the perspective of evidence-based practice.
