N2 - In this paper we present the new versions of two software packages, SimLIST and SimRECUFL The new user interface and the added visualizing programming feature of the software are described. Closed-lab exercise using SimLIST was conducted to better understand the suitability of using such software as visualization tools. The results of a survey after the lab exercise give indications that this hands-on approach to learning abstract concepts is a step in the right direction.
