Abstract
Valence state of europium in CaS: Eu phosphor has been studied through PL, EPR and XPS techniques. The obtained results show that the valence state of europium is Eu3+ instead of Eu2+, which has been misinterpreted in the past due to a broad band emission in CaS: Eu phosphor.
