N2 - A study of relationship between high school student's Internet perceptions and their preferences towards Internet-based learning environments are discussed. The study developed a questionnaire to explore student's Internet perceptions on the basis of technology, tool, toy, and guiding tour. The Preferences for Internet Learning Environment Survey (PILES) tool was administered to investigate student's preferences towards the Internet-based learning environments. Students perceived that the Internet was a tool, and then a technology. Female students showed more preferences for ease-of-use Internet learning environment, while male students tended to prefer learning environments with multiple information sources. The students with tool or toy perceptions tended to show relatively less interests in the ease-of-use, but more on the content such as relevance, multiple sources, and challenge.
