T1 - The relationship between humor styles and creativity of junior high school students

N2 - Background: The education of creativity nowadays is more and more important. Many evidences show that one's creativity has a lot to do with his sense of humor. Aims:This study investigated the relation between humor styles and creativity in junior high school students. Sample:742 junior high students were from northern, central and southern Taiwan Method:HSQ-TC and The New Tests of Creative Thinking were adapted in the syudy. And the data were analyzed by Analysis of Regresion. Results:It was found that male senior high students scored higher than female students on aggressive humor. Multiple regression analysis revealed that, in verbal creativity, affiliative humor has a significant and positive correlation with verbal fluency and verbal flexibility. It was also found that, in figure creativity, affiliative humor has a significant and positive correlation with figure fluency, figure flexibility, and figure elaboration while aggressive humor has a significant and inverse correlation with elaboration. There was also a significant and positive correlation between sense of positive humor and verbal fluency, figure fluency, figure originality and figure elaboration while a significant and inverse correlation between sense of negative humor and figure elaboration. Conclusion:These indicated that the higher the sense of positive humor, the higher the creativity performance. Towardoneself dimension of humor was significantly positively correlated with figure originality. Humor styles, particularly sense of positive humor, better predicted figure creativity than verbal creativity. IQ and EQ can be taken into account for future studies investigating relation between humor styles and creativity.
