Abstract

The pre-edge features of the oxygen O 1s X-ray absorption near edge structure spectra of Y(Ba1-xSrx)2Cu3O 7-δ, x = 0-0.5 were studied. No substantial change of the relative intensity of pre-edge peaks was observed. The spectral weights of the transitions of O 1s into the valence band and conduction band were found to be similar for x≦0.3, but changed substantially for x ≧0.4. The suppression of Tc due to the oxygen deficiency is ruled out. The reduction of hybridization of the balance band and the conduction band induced by the Sr substitution on the Ba sites can not fully account for the suppression of superconductivity.
