Abstract

We have synthesized three superconducting compounds based on the Pb-1212 phase, namely (Pb0.75Cu0.25)Sr2(Ca0.5Y0.5) Cu2O7-δ, (In0.2Pb0.55Cu0.25)Sr2(Ca0.5Y0.5)Cu2O7-δ and (Pb0.75Cu0.25)Sr2(Ca0.5Yb0.5)Cu2O7-δ, having Tc's of 40 K, 55 K and 60 K, respectively. From thermoelectric power measurements we conclude that these Pb-1212 based materials are located in the "underdoped" region compared to YBa2Cu3O7-δ. Our proposal is that still higher Tc's may be possible if one can successfully introduce even greater concentrations of holes into the conducting CuO2 plane.
