Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate a robust control method to handle varying parameters and unpredictable uncertainties within and between arc welding cycles. The performance of robust control method is compared with PI control algorithm under two conditions: First, where welding conditions are disturbed by process gain variations; and second, when conditions are disturbed by time constant variations. In each case, the analysis demonstrates the superiority of the robust control method over the PI control algorithm. The simulation results show that the developed robust control method has better performance than a traditional PI control.
