Abstract

Space shadowed by obstacles or indoor structures, e.g., space inside a building, is covered by poor incumbent signals and is unable to provide any useful incumbent services. The time-frequency slots in this space are ignored for a long time and in this paper we investigate the possibility to reuse them. We investigate the availability of these spare spectrum by field measuring the digital TV (DTV) signal strength and its signal quality. The field results show that the DTV signal strength inside a building is weak and the time-frequency slots inside a building have a potential for reuse especially by low-power radios.
