N2 - In this paper we present a reusable embedded software platform that supports multiple functions in digital still cameras (DSCs). The design methodology adopted is to extract the application specific features and device dependant controls from the functional operation modules by well-defined application program interface (API) and device driver interface (DDI), respectively. The proposed system can be reused when some of key hardware components are replaced or parts of operation flow are changed. Seven models of high performance camera as well as some extended applications are developed successfully based on the proposed embedded software platform.
