Research on immersion for learning using virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality

Abstract

With the rapid advancement in educational technology, emerging technologies, e.g. Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), Extended Reality (XR) are getting a lot of attention from the researchers, teachers, and policy makers across the different disciplines in formal and informal learning. This article summarizes a recently proposed project to Taiwan’s Ministry of Science Technology (MOST) with the following aims: 1. to illustrate the development and implementation of XR-based exemplary instructional modules; 2. to set up online platform for teachers to exchange knowledge and provide feedbacks on XR technology; 3. to host workshops to teach and equip teachers with knowledge and skills related to XR-based STEAM teaching environment.
