Reactions of Tp(NH═CPh2)(PPh3)Ru–Cl with HC≡CPh in the presence of H2O: Insertion/hydration products

The reaction of benzophenone imine complex (NH═CPh2)[Ru]Cl 1 ([Ru] = Tp(PPh3)Ru; Tp = HB(pz)3, pz = pyrazolyl) with HC≡CPh in the presence of H2O afforded the cis-alkynyl(vinylidene) complex [Ru](C≡CPh)(═C═CHPh) 3, as well as two alkenyl ketone regioisomers [Ru]C(CH2Ph)═CHC(O)Ph 4 and [Ru]C(Ph)═CHC(O)CH2Ph 5. The combination of insertion and hydration process resulted in the unprecedented formation of the alkenyl ketone complexes.
