Abstract

The microstructures and the electro-optic applications of magnetic fluid films were discussed. Under the action of external magnetic fields, a portion of magnetic particles was condensed out from the initially monodispersed magnetic fluid and formed into magnetic chains/columns. The optical transmittance of the magnetic fluid films was found to be affected by the volume of the condensed particles.
