Abstract
The unique planar Hall effect (PHE) hysteresis loops for systems with cubic magnetic anisotropy were used to detect the presence of an FCC-Co phase in nominally biaxial Co epitaxial films on X/MgO(1 0 0) (X = V, Cr and Mo). A comparison with Co films on MgO, Cu/MgO and X/MgO(1 1 0) and with structural RHEED and X-ray data is made. It is shown that analysis of PHE loops allows to determine the nucleation field of FCC cobalt at room temperature.
