Abstract
Synthesis of the first light-emitting neutral rhenium-based molecular rectangles has been accomplished. The rectangles possess large cavities having no counterions inside the channels, and above all they are luminescent at room temperature with considerable quantum yield and lifetimes in the range of nanoseconds.
