Abstract

This chapter proposes leadership and social capital as supporting factor to develop school Intellectual Capital (IC). It articulates the concept of IC and its relevance to school management and leadership and argued that well-managed IC would contribute to school innovation and excellence. The chapter argues that effective IC management can only be achieved if school principals could strengthen the social capitals. This chapter begins with an overview of the changing environments of school management in Taiwan, followed by examining the leadership strategies to create social capital in schools and analysing the knowledge management process for producing and managing school IC. It articulates the strategies and steps for school principals to develop building social capital strategies to manage IC in schools.
