Abstract
This paper presents a novel distance and area measuring method by using a CCD and remote-controlled robots. Bluetooth wireless modules are used to the control of remote-controlled robots and the communication of the data. In this paper, our system doesn't need to know the height or angle of the camera. Instead we calibrate the image by measuring two lines which are parallel to the horizontal axis of the camera. These two lines are measured using a remote-controlled robot. Changes in the height and or pitch of the camera do not affect the measurements. This is an advantage of the proposed system over traditional methods. From the experiment results, we can see that we can obtain the area measuring results from image without using any complex image identification method, and that the measurement error is acceptable in real situations.
