Abstract

We developed a series of inquiry modules with bilingual instructional materials. One of the modules was the 'watt balance' which demonstrated the application of quantum science in the new international standard system. Scientific inquiries were carried out by observing the static equilibrium and the dynamic oscillation of the balance beam with the electromagnetic interactions against the weight of a test mass. It was linked to Planck's constant h and the fundamental charge e. The 'quantum eraser' module provided the inquiry of the entangled partners of the quantum particle 'passing' the double-slit. When learning science from texts in English, students who are proficient in English can understand science texts and overcome obstacles to learning in science and English. Thus, scientist-generated instructional materials in English were analyzed to develop genre-based supplementary materials in this study. The result helps students for the integrated learning of content and language.
