Abstract
Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a chronic condition with profound negative consequences for one's health and personal relationships. In this pilot needs-finding study, we interviewed four AUD patient-family dyads to investigate the integration of chatbot technology with existing self-monitoring and social sensing tools in AUD treatment. Insights from these interviews informed the design of mobile applications aimed at promoting collaboration between patients and family companions. A chatbot-powered backend supports self-monitoring, facilitates family updates, and provides continuous guidance via a 24/7 conversational agent. Subsequent research will involve a field study to evaluate the feasibility of the system for clinical application in AUD management.
