An ESR study of the decay of the NH+3 free radical in LiKSO4 crystals

Abstract

The decay at room temperature and at temperatures between 70°C and 200°C of the NH+3 free radical produced by γ-irradiation in NH+3-doped LiKSO4 crystals was studied by electron spin resonance (ESR). The decay product of NH+3 is extremely stable at room temperature, and it shows a 3-line nitrogen hyperfine splitting similar to the reported NSO2-4 decay species in (NH4)2SO4.
