Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the differences of health-related physical fitness among overseas Chinese boy students from Southeast Asia. 224 freshmen of National Overseas Chinese Students University Preparatory School served as subjects. The subjects come from four countries in Southeast Asia--- Hong Kong/Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Indonesia Stratified random sampling was conducted in this study. AII of the subjects were asked to perform the health-related physical fitness including BMI, sit and reach, standing boarding jump, one-minute sit up, and 1600m run, which followed the regulation of Ministry of Education Independent sampling one-way ANOVA and Scheffé method posteriori comparison were applied to identify the differences of hea1th-related physical fitness among the boy students from the four countries of Southeast Asia. Alpha level equaled to .05. The findings were as followed:1.ln BMI, the difference among the boy students from the four countries was not significant. The BMI of the students from Indonesia and Malaysia was normal while the BMI of the students from Myanmar and Hong Kong/Macau was a bite lighter.2.ln sit and reach, standing board jump, and one minute sit up, the difference among the boy students from the four countries was not significant.3.ln 1600m run, the difference among the boy students from the four countries was significant(p< .05) between Indonesia and Myanmar, Indonesia and Hong Kong/Macau, Malaysia and Hong Kong/Macau . The performance of the students from Hong Kong/Macau were better than that from Myanmar, Myanmar better than Malaysia, Malaysia better than Indonesia.
