Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the pursuit ofhealth and well-being of unmarried middle-aged women, throughthe analytical lenses of health information behavior on the Internetand health-promoting lifestyle. The research participants were nevermarried women aged from 40 to 65 in Taiwan, they were recruitedthrough both theoretical and snowball sampling strategies withstructured questionnaire from May to July, 2015. Data collectedincluded research participants’ demographic data, Internet healthinformation behavior, and health promoting lifestyle. 385 completedquestionnaires were confirmed as valid. The findings suggestedthat the unmarried middle-aged women thought that they had basiccomputer literacy and preferred Internet as the primary healthinformation source. However, they found evaluating accuracy of theInternet health information a difficult task. The health-promotinglifestyle short scale (HPLP-S) revealed that the unmarried middleaged women felt positive spiritually and cared about healthy diets.Based on the findings of this study, unmarried middle-aged women areencouraged to participate in group activities in order to increase senseof belonging, and healthcare and welfare organizations are advised tooffer information literacy training sessions to unmarried middle-agedwomen to develop ability to solve health problems with informationtechnology.
