Abstract
Since the Mid-Ming Dynasty, criticism of popular novels had frequently appeared in notes, prefaces, postscripts and actual comments (Ping Dian). Zhang Zhu Po criticized Jin Ping Mei (The Golden Lotus) not only followed general assessments of "The Four Masterpieces" since Feng Meng Long, but also developed a new standpoint based on Jin Sheng Tan criticism ideas. In his criticism book Jin Ping Mei, he stated: "I write my own criticism of Jin Ping Mei which has nothing to do with others' criticism of it." He also indicated that his criticism was unprecedented and this made his comments (Ping Dian) full of creation consciousness. This paper focuses on Zhang Zhu Po's Jin Ping Mei creation criticism and Zhang's delineation of yanyi and analyzes the message he wanted to transmit. Through the analyzes to bring new perspectives to interpret Jin Ping Mei in addition to established ones including Ku Xiao theory, blaming Wu Yue Niang theory, and referring Meng Yu Lou as the author theory.
