Description
Children's picture book illustration is an important part of aesthetic education and is also loved by many adult readers. The purpose of this research is to understand the development of Taiwan's picture book illustration style in the past 16 years, so as to link up with the relevant series of research results in Taiwan before 2003. And understand its background meaning from interviews and questionnaires. The purpose of the research is achieved through four sub-studies A, B, C, and D. Research A and B adopted the "overall intuitive" classification method of existing research (I, 2000), and analyzed 1,114 home-made children's picture books in Taiwan from 2004 to 2019 sampled by public libraries (Research A), and 1,332 Distribution of illustration styles of copyrighted children's picture books imported by Taiwan from 2004 to 2019 (Study B). The findings were compared with three existing studies prior to 2004. The results of the study found that "Fairytale-cartoon", “Caricature”, and “Decoration” are the most popular styles of children's picture books, both Taiwan and foreign. Foreign styles are more concentrated in "Fairytale-cartoon" than Taiwan. Taiwan's new private sectors' samples have more "Caricature" and fewer "Decoration" than existing research samples. The styles have not become more diverse with the times, but have become more concentrated. Adult styles such as "Western-painting-liked" and "Chinese-painting-liked" are on the decline, and the number has turned to new sub-items of childized styles or styles such as "Sweet-warmess". Research C and D interviewed Taiwan Children's Picture Book Publishing House and Taiwan's old, middle and young illustrators to understand the causes of style centralization and childization. And from the perspective of style, the environmental factors faced by Taiwanese children's picture books and the possible impact on aesthetic education.
