Description
In an ageing society, family relationships across several generations are becoming increasingly important. Data are obtained from the 2016 Taiwan Social Change Survey. This study examines the intergenerational relationships among individuals in mid-life, their parents, parents-in-law, and adult children. According to intergenerational solidarity theory, intergenerational relationships are dictated by various components: filial norms, quality of intergenerational relationships, and intergenerational support exchange. The interrelatedness of multigenerational relationships and a mid-life individual's marital satisfaction are explored.
