Description
Literature is the conversation among human, space, and time. Text is the hint to recall the collective memories, and the travel literature is the significant way to represent landscapes. However, modern people prefer a pictorial description rather than a text paragraph. The landscape also changes as time goes by. It is more and more difficult for modern people to imagine the original landscape where the writer saw simply from their literature. In this research, we will dig out suitable travelling literature from various online database. The exploration of literature will be deeper with the assistance of geospatial information algorithms and technologies. The field of view for both literature and geospatial information domains can be widen while the relationship among travelling literature is explored with spatial-temporal analysis. The major objectives of this research includes, (1) to collect Taiwanese historical travel literature based on the top eight landscapes and the top twelve scenic spots from 1684 to 1945; (2) to analyze the literature both in space and in time with geospatial information system; (3) to augment the literature into user’s view with the help of AR. A location-based service (LBS) app will be developed to help people getting closer to the natural and liberal environment of Taiwan. The geospatial information will be open to the public to inspire and promote further research. This research will try to reconstruct the literature landscape with geospatial information system, and to make the travel literature appears around the user with the technology of augmented reality (AR). So the readers can understand the literature more comprehensively. The landscapes mentioned in the literature will be turned into points, polylines, and polygons layers. The layers are then stored into the geospatial information system with associated location. With the help of temporal-spatial analysis, we hope to recover some hidden relationship among the different authors’ travel literatures. The system will also provide travelling route suggestion for tourists who want to explore more local literature and local landscape. We expect the establishment and application of this travel literature geographic information system (TLGIS) could be helpful to the further research about travel literatures.
