Description
Geography as a subject in various school levels has unique status to enable students with the fundamental knowledges and skills for their future career. The current project, which includes two major competitions with four tests, has been successfully completed. The 18th Taiwan Geography Olympiad (2019 TGEO), for students of age 16-19, include a project-based and an individual-based competition. The 15th Taiwan National Geographic Championship (2019 TNGC), for students of age 10-15, consists of three-stage tests, which focus on open-ended questions and hands-on activities. As a whole, more than 450 primary and junior high schools and 70 senior high schools signed up. In 2019 International Geography Olympiad, talented and highly motivated Taiwanese students won two silver medals, one bronze medal and win first place in the Poster Presentations. TGEO and TNGC has received very positive feedbacks from students, school teachers and parents. It is believed these competitions will continuously stimulate the implementation of the fieldwork, issue discussion and project-based learning into teaching through geography.
