Project Details
Description
2019 was the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)” by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO. It was also a celebration of the centennial anniversary of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). This project is jointly organized by the National Taiwan Normal University and the Chemical Society Located in Taipei (CSLT) with more than 10 science education organizations in Taiwan to celebrate the IYPT. The serial activities include special exhibitions, chemical element experiment activities, element puzzles and APP games, periodic table poster design competition, teaching materials and media design competition, online question games, Wikipedia chemical element translation, etc. In addition, the project utilized painted trains and Taipei 101 Lighting as novel media to popularize scientific knowledge. Year-round celebrations spread throughout Taiwan and reached more than one million people, including students, pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and the public. The achievements of related projects were also exhibited at the closing ceremony of IUPAC IYPT in Tokyo, Japan, and other occasions, successfully promoting and commemorating the purpose of IYPT, highlighting the relevance of chemistry in our daily life, and arousing the public's attention to scientific and environmental issues.
