Description
This research project aims to conduct a supervisor training program and investigate the effectiveness of the training program via a standpoint of empowerment. Qualitative research paradigm will be utilized, and specifically, Husserlian Phenomenology will be employed. The training program is tailored for school guidance counselors, who are the site supervisors of the undergraduate interns of counseling practicum from the semester of 2020 Fall-2021 Winter. The training program is developed by following basic principles: training content includes fundamental concepts of supervision and introduction of a specific supervision model for future supervisory practice; additionally, training model includes didactic and experiential. In total 22 participants are recruited. Participants received basic and advanced training workshops, three days respectively. The first three-day workshop includes the concept of supervision, supervision assessment, and ethics of supervision. The second three-day workshop is Self-Awareness Supervision Model (SASM) training. Qualitative research interviews, i.e., focus group interviews and a questionnaire, Supervisor’s Self-awareness Inventory, were employed for data collection. Participants completed the questionnaire when they receive each time of focus group interview. Thematic analysis were used to analyze the qualitative data by following the six phases: being familiar with the data, generating initial codes, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and producing the report. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed via descriptive statistics and T test. A doctoral-level experienced guidance counselor, who has over 20 years of experience in the field of school guidance, will serve as an audit to discuss each ode and themes as well as the interpretation of results of the questionnaire. The results of the research project are with the hope that the guidance counselors’ supervisory competencies are strengthened, and the training quality of the next-generation helpers will be enhanced. Recommendation for guidance counselors as site supervisors, counselor education, and the direction for future research were provided.
