Project Details
Description
This project aims to discuss the records of Jin dynasty affairs within the two of Li Xinchuan’s historical writings: Jianyan yilai xinian yiaolu and Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji. Li Xinchuan was a renowned historian of the Southern Song dynasty. His writings have been widely acknowledged as being honest and close to the facts. However, modern research has deemed Li Xinchuan to leaving behind numerous “False” Jin dynasty records. Through modern research, we can identify these incorrect facts but for Li Xinchuan and others of the same era, it is rather difficult. Li Xinchuan and others of the same era were fully accepted records as absolute truth and this difference in interpretation acts as important clues in modern studies on Southern Song’s understanding and apprehension of the Jin dynasty. This project will try to identify these records which provide descriptions on the affairs of the Jin dynasty within the Jianyan yilai xinian yiaolu and Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji, compare these records with today’s interpretations, Jin dynasty texts and other Song dynasty documentations, and analysis the meaning behind these differences.
