Description

This study mainly focuses on analyzing the rhythmic typology of the modern literature in Mandarin Chinese, especially within the framework of Prosodic Phonology. The representations of Rhythm are so natural and with the Universal Grammar. No matter literature language or spoken language, the rhythm is represented as the stress, the tone, the alliterate sounds, the vowel harmony, the rhymes. Such the different forms are the prosodic units. The prosodic unit, such as Foot, Phonological Phrase are dominated by other kind of prosodic units. Those prosodic units must be organized into the units in order to be the prosodic domain. The prosodic units within the domains occur repeatedly by some rules. No matter in classical Chinese metrics or modern vernacular literature, the rhythmic typology would be the main different point between the verses and the proses. There would be a database for the vernacular literature poetry and proses in Mandarin Chinese. The annotations would include two parts: one is about the syntactic structures, such the XP, noun/verb phrases and the functions as head-subject, compliment, adjunct or non-adjunct;the other part is about prosodic structures, such as foot, phonological phrases, the prosodic domain. The current study would try to figure out the rhythmic representations of the different stylistic literature language uses.
