Description
The purpose of this research was to deeply depict and interpret the phenomena of outdoor recreational sport for the progression of recreation specialization for amateur Ironman triathlon finishers. Qualitative approach was taken to achieve the research purpose. Research participants were 25 amateur Ironman triathlon finishers. Data were continually collected through two steps by the methods of “in-depth interview” and “focus group interview” and then analyzed to generalize results. As the results, amateur Ironman triathlon finishers’ progression of recreation specialization were concluded for three stages with eight main concepts. Three stages were: 1) “Pushing factors” with main concepts of personal desire and social support; 2) “Changes for the progression” with concepts of cognition, behavior and affection; 3) “Influence of the progression” with concepts of personal inspiration, preference for events and alteration of role. According to the results, suggestions for following researches were also provided as reference for promoting future recreational triathlon sport participation.
