Description
This study observes the systematic descriptions of Wanyan Aguda's sons within Song literary works and analyzes the “validity” and heredity relationship within their contents, while providing explanations on their significance. Six main literary works were observed, including Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji, Jianyan yilai xinian yaolu, Shenluji, Jinlutujing, Songmo jiwen and Jinlu jieyao, which were directly compared with Jinshi. Through this study, three conclusions were made. Firstly, although the Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji was the latest in terms of composition date, its contents were unexpectedly not the most aligning in terms of our current understanding of History of Jin. Surprisingly, the three literary works: Shenluji, Songmo jiwen and Jinlu jieyao, all of which were earlier in terms of creation date, were much more in alignment with modern interpretations. In addition, although both Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji and Jianyan yilai xinian yaolu were written by Li Xinchuan, they are vastly different from each other. This indicates that Li Xinchuan’s understanding of literary works on Aguda’s sons had changed between the years of the two written works. Lastly, although literary works on Aguda’s sons were most popular during the rivalry between Jin and Song, they had significant influence on Southern Song. Despite this, when compared to Jinshi, we can deduce that the Song people were very unfamiliar with Aguda’s sons literary works. However, individually speaking, Song people had a better understanding of Wanyan Aguda’s first five sons, especially Wanyan Zongbi.
