太魯閣語借詞與音韻之互動研究

This project investigates the adaptation of Japanese loanwords in Truku. In the adaptation of vowels, it is found that when a Japanese vowel lacks a Truku correspondence, it is adapted as the closest vowel in Truku and in case there is a conflict between the preservation of backness and roundness, it is more important to preserve backness than roundedness. In the adaptation of consonants, all Japanese consonants that lack Truku correspondences are adapted as the closest consonants except for [ts], which is directly imported into Truku. As for the aspect of phonotactics, except for the [ti] combination derived from the Japanese /te/, which is absent in Truku, all loanwords comform to Truku phonotactics. With respect to syllable structure, Japanese geminate consonants, which Truku disallows, are adapted with consonant deletion rather than vowel epenthesis. Finally, for the adaptation of pitch/stress, stress falls on the penultimate syllable following Truku stress assignment, irrespective of the pitch patterns of the respective Japanese words.
