Project Details
Description
The application of digital videos has become common in higher education, including in blended learning, flipped classrooms, and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). This project incorporated the questioning strategy into video-based learning to promote active learning, and explored the effectiveness of the format (multiple choice OR text input) and the presentation (overlaid on OR side of the video display) of the questions embedded within video content in terms of student engagement, cognitive load, and learning achievement. The project tasks or activities covered: determining a video theme, selecting/producing videos, designing questions with feedbacks, adding questions in the videos, selecting/creating video platforms, determining /developing measurements, recruiting teachers/learners, and designing and implementing experiments. A total of 130 adults over the age of 20 were recruited to participate in the study. The analyses based on the data form the participants completed the video lessons and measurements showed that their perceptions and outcomes were related to the presentation or form of questions with videos. The question format would affect learners’ cognitive and affective engagement, while the presentation would result in different learning achievement.
